On September 11, 1992, Die Toten Hosen played live in Argentina for the first time in Buenos Aires, marking the beginning of a great love affair between a band from Düsseldorf and fans from South America. In 2022, this performance celebrated its 30th anniversary, and the occasion was fittingly celebrated with several concerts in the Argentine capital and another show in Tandil.
For training purposes, some of the evenings were recorded. A few months ago, guitarist Kuddel played the recordings again at the band's Christmas party late in the evening, and everyone was surprised that they not only thrilled all those present but even the police officers who arrived shortly after due to noise complaints.
Since this documentation of the wildness, madness, and emotionality that have always characterized Hosen concerts in Argentina was so well received, the idea arose to bring joy to more people with the material: as a memory for all who were there and as a small sample for those who could not attend. "Fiesta y Ruido: Die Toten Hosen live in Argentina" features 20 songs, not only the highlights from the sets of these concerts but also some cover versions of the pioneering Argentine punk band Los Violadores and Pilsen, with whom the band had a long friendship. The song "Más allá del bien y del mal," written by him, metaphorically addresses the brutality of the Argentine military dictatorship, which Los Violadores repeatedly suffered under in their early days.
Another highlight is "Ya No Sos Igual," an Argentine punk rock classic by Dos Minutos, whose frontman Mosca has performed with Die Toten Hosen in Buenos Aires. The song is arguably the biggest anthem of the legendary Argentine punk band, which was founded in 1987 by frontman Walter "Mosca" Veláquez. Just before Die Toten Hosen set off on this tour, they invited Dos Minutos to record a new version of this classic together with rapper Trueno. For the band, this was a great way to get in the mood for the journey, and it was clear that the song belonged on the setlist during this tour. The video for the single, which was created during the joint performance at the concert in Buenos Aires, can also be seen here. Mosca is regarded in Argentina as the "Poet of the Suburbs" and paints a detailed picture of the more dubious corners of Buenos Aires in "Ya No Sos Igual." It deals with friendship, betrayal, police, and nightlife. Everyone in the Argentine music scene knows the lyrics, and when Mosca came on stage that evening, the place practically exploded.
As a third single, "Freunde" was released! A piece that has always been well received in Argentina and is traditionally sung along very loudly by the locals. Thematically, "Freunde" fits perfectly with the special connection between Die Toten Hosen and this unique country with all its crazy, wonderful people. Not only have the five musicians formed many great friendships in Argentina over the years, but also numerous German and Argentine Die Toten Hosen fans who met at our concerts and have since regularly visited each other.
"Fiesta y Ruido: Die Toten Hosen live in Argentina" will be released as a double LP in a limited and numbered edition of 10,000 copies, featuring one blue and one white 180g vinyl record, as well as on CD (first edition in digipack) with a 28-page booklet, as a download, and for streaming.
