The signs were not good for my first NERVEN concert. First, the OWD tunnel in Bielefeld was closed, then there was no parking spot to be found near the Bielefeld "Forum", so I parked in some dark side street and had to walk about a kilometer in +3°C to the "Forum", but at least it wasn't raining anymore like it was when I left Lemgo. Consequently, I missed the first songs of the opening act ZWEILASTER or ZWEI LASTER (??). However, that wasn't too bad, as I couldn't really get into their minimal music (guitar + drums). It was just a jumbled late Deutsche Welle, like TRIO but worse. But the performance of the two was quite nice, jumping around the stage with a large green (bed) sheet, which I had never seen before. Speaking of seeing, it was pretty crowded in the Forum and the average age was unusually high.
After a short changeover, the three NERVEN took the stage at the "Forum". It turned out to be the fourth time, but they had been to Bielefeld 8-9 or 10 times. So it was not surprising that DIE NERVEN had the Forum under control from the start. The first 25 minutes were dedicated to the new album "Wir waren hier", which I rated 10 out of 10 here on Ramtatta. Rightly so!
The atmosphere became increasingly exuberant, with their musical mix of noise – punk – rock – indie – wave, and all of that sometimes in one song! A song can start with REFUSED blasting, then jump into the indie genre in the verse, maybe add some punk rock in the bridge, and at the end, the three stand separately in the corners mourning to THE CURE.
The Stuttgarters definitely impressed me and the approximately 400 other spectators. Especially drummer Kevin entertained and animated the audience from his drum kit. After 70 minutes and two encore songs, he also took the opportunity to sing a little solo at the microphone. Here too, the audience, known for their stubbornness, eagerly joined in and sang along with him. I think it was something by OASIS (!) or something like that…..
Thus, it turned out to be a worthwhile evening after all :-).
